Desert Hills, Judge, Waterford claim Boys' Soccer state titles
(KUTV) - A trio of state champions were crowned on Saturday as the 4A, 3A, and 2A Boys' Soccer championships were contested at the Zions Bank Real Academy in Herriman.
In the 4A title game, Park City looked for its first title since 2009 while Desert Hills looked for their first title in thei first championship apperance. The Thunder were able to use a pair of goals each from seniors Kelton Holt and Walker Heaton as Desert Hills claimed the 4A State title with a 4-0 win over Park City.
In the 3A championship Judge Memorial took on Region 13 rival Morgan in the day's second matchup. Neither team could find the back of the net through regulation time, so the game would be decided in either extra time with a golden goal or by the way of penalty kicks. As both teams had chances in front of their opponents' nets, neither team could find the golden goal until the final minutes of the second extra period. Joseph Paul would slot home the game winner with just minutes left to give Judge the 3A championship, their first since 2010.
In the nightcap, Rowland Hall took on Waterford in the 2A championship as the Ravens looked for their second title in the last three years. The Ravens scored twice in the first half and added another in the second as Waterford took the 2A title with a 3-0 win.
