Cute Video: Turtle hatchlings make a run for it
There are dozens of tiny new creatures swimming around in the Atlantic.
The Loggerhead Marinelife Center shared video of a squadron of turtle hatchlings running for the ocean.
According to research experts at Loggerhead, there are more than 3,800 nests in Palm Beach County. Most are for loggerhead turtles. There are 138 nests for leatherbacks and 12 nests for green turtles so watch your toes when walking along the beaches.
Field Operations Manager Adrienne McCracken says they're on track to record 10,000 loggerhead turtle nests this season, which amounts to a nest every 3 feet along the 9.5 miles of beach the center monitors between the Martin-Palm Beach County border near Tequesta and John D. MacArthur State Park in North Palm Beach. McCracken said the turtles are averaging about 120 to 150 new nests each night.
