Virginia man charged with trying to kidnap his mother using shotgun

The Rockingham County Sheriff's Office said Gavin Anthony Davis, 33, of Stuart is charged with felonious second degree kidnapping, breaking and entering, assault by pointing a gun, and injury to real property.

WENTWORTH, N.C. (WSET) -- A Virginia man has been arrested after authorities said he used a shotgun to try and kidnap his mother in North Carolina.

The Rockingham County Sheriff's Office said Gavin Anthony Davis, 33, of Stuart is charged with felonious second degree kidnapping, breaking and entering, assault by pointing a gun, and injury to real property.

According to Davis' mother, Lisa Marie Huges, 54, he arrived at her home in Reidsville, N.C. between 6:30 a.m. - 7 a.m. Tuesday morning and knocked on the door.

She said he then threw a rock through the window.

When Huges opened the door to see what was going on, she said Davis confronted her with a shotgun, entered the home, and attempted to make her leave and get into his car.

The sheriff's office said Huges began speaking with Davis and at one point he went outside and she was able to shut the door and lock him out when she called 911.

Huges was not injured.

Davis was placed in the Rockingham County Detention Center under a $100,000 bond and is scheduled to be in court on July 31.
