Trump fires Tillerson, replaces him with CIA Director Mike Pompeo
(KUTV) — President Donald Trump fired Secretary of State Rex Tillerson early Tuesday morning, replacing him with CIA Director Mike Pompeo.
In a tweet, Trump said, "Mike Pompeo, Director of the CIA, will become our new Secretary of State. He will do a fantastic job! Thank you to Rex Tillerson for his service! Gina Haspel will become the new Director of the CIA, and the first woman so chosen. Congratulations to all!"
Pompeo will be replaced by Hapsel, who was his deputy at the CIA. She will be the first woman to fulfill the role.
In December 2017, Trump responded to media speculation that Tillerson would leave his job as Secretary of State, saying it was "fake news."
