(KUTV) -- Volunteers gathered on the west side of Utah Lake in Saratoga Springs on Saturday cleaning up debris in support of the "Change Your Range" initiative.

Change Your Range is an event that can take place around the nation at public shooting ranges where volunteers can win outdoor great in exchange for picking up trash.

The event in Utah resulted in more than four tons of trash being picked up and hauled away by people giving of their time.

"We all benefit from the privilege of shooting on public land. This is not a right. If we can not correct our current course of leaving public ranges filled with trash and debris, more and more of that land will be closed to shooting," stated the Change Your Range website. "As an industry, that would be catastrophic. As a country, it would be the death of tradition. As a community, we can not let that happen! We are looking for support in changing what has now become the 'norm' in public land shooting."

Participants who took photos or video and tagged #ChangeYourRange on social media were entered to win great outdoor products from the initiative's supporting partners which included, but not limited to, Long Range Shooters of Utah. Scheels and the Utah Department of Natural Resources.
