WEST VALLEY CITY, UT (KUTV) -- West Valley City Police Department has released new information regarding the names of the suspect and victim involved in Saturday evening's homicide, along with how the initial call was made.
According to a press release from West Valley City Police, officers were dispatched to a trailer home on W. Chester Park Dr. at approximately 6:30 p.m. Saturday when a five-year-old child made a 911 call indicating that his mother was injured.
When officers arrived, they discovered the door to the trailer home was open and found the body to the 46-year-old woman with what appeared to be multiple stab wounds. The press release stated police identified the woman as Brenda Thomas.
Investigators developed leads that identified the suspect as 50-year-old Darren Byrd, and identified the vehicle he was potentially driving. Officers located the vehicle with Byrd inside and took him into custody for questioning.
The press release stated that Byrd was arrested for domestic violence with aggravated murder, child abuse and in the presence of a child, along with obstruction of justice and possession of a weapon by a restricted person.
Police stated in the press release that the relationship with Thomas and Byrd has not yet been established; however, it is known that they lived together in the trailer home.
Thomas' next of kin has been notified of her death and the Division of Child and Family Services took immediate custody of Thomas' child.
