Suspect in Spider-Man costume robs Herriman candy store at gunpoint on Halloween
(KUTV) – Herriman Police are on the lookout for a suspect wearing a Spider-Man costume who robbed a candy store at gunpoint Halloween night.
“A full body Spider-Man costume might seem out of place on any other day other than Halloween,” Herriman Police Lt. Cody Stromberg said.
Detectives tell 2News the robbery occurred around 4:45 p.m. at the Salt City Sweet Shop near 5100 West 13400 South.
According to Herriman Police, the suspect walked into the store and showed both a handgun and a tazer while demanding the employees lay down on the ground. After rummaging through the till and a safe, the suspect told the employees not to call police and ran away.
“We just opened this business in February and never imagined anything like this,” Marc Drew with Salt City Sweet Shop told 2News. “We moved to a new place, open a new business, and have our daughter held up at gunpoint.”
Drew said the employees initially thought a friend had come to see them in costume, but the suspect walked to the back and pulled out the weapons.
“On a day like this you kind of expect it but not with a gun and a tazer in your face,” Drew said.
The suspect told the employees not to call police as he was leaving the store.
“If he starts here, who knows, he could escalate and somebody gets hurt,” Lt. Stromberg said.
Police say the suspect’s costume opened in the back enough for an employee to see a black shirt with writing on it. Investigators believe the suspect is a white male between 5’5” and 6’ tall with brown hair and blue eyes.
Herriman Police request anyone with information about the suspect to contact them.
