Police seek help identifying armed suspect in Sandy bank robbery
(KUTV)- Sandy police need help identifying a man who they say entered the First Utah Bank in Sandy with a gun, demanded money, and fled.
Officers responded to the bank located near 11015 S State Street around noon on Friday. Witnesses say the armed suspect approached two tellers and demanded an undisclosed amount of money. He then exited the bank and fled, activating two dye packs.
Police say, "it is likely the red dye transferred to his hooded sweatshirt as well as to his rain jacket," and he may have sustained a burn injury to his lower abdomen or pelvic area.
The man is described as being in his 30s or 40s with light skin. He is believed to be between 5 feet 9 inches and 5 feet 11 inches and about 200 to 210 pounds.
Police say the man was wearing a blue rain jacket with a gray hooded sweatshirt underneath and gray-colored pants at the time of the robbery. He was also wearing yellow leather gloves with blue latex gloves over them and a black mask covering his mouth.
Sandy police said a red 2000 to 2006 Chevrolet Tahoe was observed “possibly casing the area” in the days prior to the robbery. The person driving the Tahoe is also wanted for questioning in connection with the robbery.
Anyone who recognizes the man or the driver of the Tahoe is encouraged to call Sandy police at 801-568-7200 or the department’s anonymous tip line at 801-568-4636.
