Outside official picked by courts to oversee polygamous towns
(KUTV) City Manager of Washington, Utah has been officially chosen by a judge to oversee and monitor the towns of Hildale, Utah and Colorado City, Ariz.
Some of the residents in those towns are known to practice polygamy.
Roger Carter was chosen to monitor the towns as a punishment for a religious discrimination verdict.
The appointment by a judge was made Aug. 3 as a response to the verdict that concluded nonbelievers were denied police protection, building permits and water hookups on the basis of religion within the two communities.
2News reached out to Carter regarding his new role in the Short Creek and he confirmed the news was correct but was unable to comment further due to court order.
Carter is the last of three outsiders recently hired to help carry out this court-order help in the towns.
