Murder charges filed against former NFL player for wife's Park City death
(KUTV) – Prosecutors filed charges Monday morning against Anthony McClanahan, 45, after the death of his wife earlier this month in Park City.
Police named McClanahan, a former NFL player, as a suspect in court documents filed shortly after his wife Keri McClanahan died from “knife wounds to her throat” inside a Park City condo on November 3.
According to charging documents, McClanahan waved down a Park City Police officer near 1710 Prospector Ave around 1:30 a.m. and claimed his family was attacked by two to three men. A police report states McClanahan refused to tell police where his wife was located after being asked several times.
Officers observed injuries to McClanahan’s face, neck, wrist, arms, and torso, as well as blood on his bare feet. The injuries were later determined to be superficial.
Police found Keri McClanahan’s body inside a room in the condo . EMT’s reported she had multiple cuts to the front, back and sides of her neck and several defensive wounds and carpet burns on her body, according to a probable cause statement.
A medical examiner told detectives that the victim “put up a significant struggle” before her death.
Anthony McClanahan gave police a description o the men who he claimed attacked the family, but detectives reviewed surveillance cameras and did not see anyone matching the description entering the building.
Detectives added that there were no open doors to the building and no signs of forced entry into the unit where Keri McClanahan was found dead.
Anthony McClanahan remains incarcerated at the Salt Lake County jail. A court date for the murder charges was not listed Monday morning.
