More than 400 refugee mothers honored with celebratory event
(KUTV) -- The 19th Annual Mother's Day Event for refugee mothers took place at Bryant Middle School on Saturday.
More than 400 mothers living in shelters throughout the Salt Lake valley and women who are unemployed or are having a difficult time were honored at the event.
"For many of these women, Mother's Day is a lonely and depressing day," said Dr. Cesar Diaz, executive director of Changing Lives Globally. "We try to change that feeling for a handful of women each year."
A Mariachi band played while women and their children danced at the two-hour luncheon that included a magic show and each mother receiving a special bag with gifts inside.
