(KUTV) — A woman was killed after being hit by a car in Taylorsville on Monday night, police said.

The Unified Police Department is investigating the crash, which occurred at about 8 p.m. in the area of 4700 South Redwood Road in Taylorsville.

A UPD public information officer confirmed the woman died at the scene of the crash. She was crossing the road in an area that did not have a cross walk, according to Detective Chuck Malm with UPD. It is possible she could have been hit by other vehicles.

The eastbound lanes of 4700 South were shut down while police remained on scene investigating and reconstructing the crash. Delays were expected on roads in the area for several hours.

UPD officers reminded the public to pay attention when driving in the dark, as officers see an uptick in auto-pedestrian collisions during the darker fall and winter months.

Malm confirmed to 2News that the driver is cooperating with police. It is unknown at this time if drugs or alcohol played a factor.

This is a developing story. More information will be added as it becomes available.
