(KUTV) A man was arrested in Murray Friday evening in connection with an alleged kidnapping and assault that left the victim near death.

According to police, Timothy Peterson, 35-years-old, was arrested late Friday night at the Baymont Inn & Suites where he was found with "another individual."

Peterson was booked into Salt Lake County jail and now faces charges of aggravated kidnapping and aggravated assault, both of which are felonies.

According to police, the incident occurred on Oct 1, where he assaulted his girlfriend "pretty severely."

Officer Jason Goode was driving near Wardel Park when he saw a white four-door car parked in a closed parking lot.

As Goode pulled in to the parking lot, he turned his lights on and saw a blanket draped on the inside of the passenger door so that you couldn’t see into the car from that side. He saw Peterson leaning into the back seat and apparently (it looked like he was) “rocking back and forth.”

When the officer opened the door, Peterson fled the scene and the victim ran to the officer frantically screaming and covered in blood. According to Goode, the victims face was "discolored and covered in blood."

Medical assistance was called and the victim was transported to the hospital to be treated for her injuries. The case was turned over to the Saratoga Springs PD investigative unit, which enlisted the help of Utah County Major Crimes Unit and Salt Lake County's major gang unit.

Peterson is currently being held on $100,000 bail bond.
