LDS St. George temple closes after individual vandalizes interior

UPDATE: The St. George LDS Temple has been reopened.

The suspect in the vandalism case has been identified as Charles Gregory Logan. He was booked into the Washington County Jail on the following charges:

  • Disorderly conduct
  • Interfering with arrest
  • Assault-simple
  • Criminal mischief
  • Burglary of a non-dwelling

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (KUTV) - The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Temple in St. George has been temporarily closed after a man broke into the building and vandalized a portion of the interior.

At approximately 5:00 a.m., the individual broke a window and entered the temple.

On his way to the fifth floor, the man damaged furniture, artwork and other items.

After causing additional damage on the 5th floor, the man was contained by temple workers until police arrived. The man was arrested.

The temple has been temporarily closed so the damage can be properly addressed.

Church officials are hopeful that normal temple operations will resume later today.
