Salt Palace Convention Center hotel plans approved
(KUTV) -- It’s official: the Salt Palace Convention Center is getting a new hotel.
The Governor’s Office of Economic Development unanimously approved a movement granting incentives for private investor Portman Holdings, and other city and state agencies to move forward with the plan.
"We got them approved for an incentive, a rebate and now we can start helping this project come out of the ground," said Ben Hart of the Governor’s Office of Economic Development.
Investors could see tax breaks in the $70 to $80 million dollar range.
“With the new hotel convention center, it will bring actual property tax revenue from this site," Hart said.
Construction of the 680,000 square foot, $337 million, 325’ tall building is expected to start next fall. It will hold 700-750 rooms, according to a recent press release.
Management and exact plans are still under consideration.
The building is slated to open by Spring of 2022.
