(KUTV) — A Millcreek man faces a felony charge of torture of a companion animal for allegedly beating a dog with a hammer when the dog ate from the man’s plate.
Prosecutors charged Stanley Jocelyn, 50, in Third District Court Friday for the incident which occurred in his home on 1000 East in Millcreek in August.
According to a probable cause statement, Jocelyn set his dinner plate on the living room table and the family’s dog, Temper, grabbed steak from the plate.
“Upon defendant making a move towards Temper, the dog bit him. Jocelyn then retrieved a hammer and repeatedly struck Temper in the head,” the statement reads.
Officers were called to the home and observed blood on the sofa, in the kitchen, and on another person. A neighbor took Temper to a veterinary trauma center and later told police he feared that Jocelyn would retaliate against him for taking the dog for treatment.
Temper was diagnosed with blunt head trauma. He underwent surgery for the crushing injury to his skull.
A warrant was issued for Jocelyn’s arrest when charges were filed Friday.
