Police identify suspect in the Herriman SWAT standoff

UPDATE: Police identified the suspect in the Herriman SWAT standoff as Wilford Hoglund, 35-years-old.

Unified Police Department tweeted he was taken into custody and his charges are pending.

UPDATE: Barricaded man taken into custody safely. SWAT still on the scene, securing the residence.

(KUTV) -- Unified Police say a SWAT team has been called to reports of a man with a rifle breaking windows in the area of 13351 S. 7300 West, Herriman.

The man has possibly barricaded himself in a home. Residents in the vicinity have been asked to shelter in place, preferably in a basement.

Butterfield Canyon Elementary is on a lockout, which means the outside doors are locked but students are safe and classes are continuing as normal.

Travelers are asked to avoid the area and use alternative routes.
