It's not the FBI calling - from the Utah State Courts phone number

(KUTV) If you get a call from the Utah State Courts, beware. It could be a scam.

According to a court spokesperson, scammers have been placing calls that appear to be coming from the Utah Court of Appeals. Using a technique called spoofing, a crook can make their number show up as whatever they want on someone’s caller ID.

“The scammers are identifying themselves as federal agents with the FBI and telling people that they owe money and must pay or they will be arrested,” a statement from the courts says.

In 2016, Get Gephardt reported that criminals were stealing the identities of cops and courts to try and rip off Utahns.

The Utah State Courts is advising the public to contact their local law enforcement agency if you have received one of these calls.
