According to Simon, the majority of Utahns support medical marijuana legislation.
"What's written in this bill that's a little different than Colorado or California is consumers will not have the ability to grow the plant or buy the plant," Simon said.
The biggest hurdle facing marijuana advocates, Simon says, is the stigma that the plant has had for many decades and the federal government keeping the plant as a schedule 1 controlled substance.
Simon states that keeping marijuana as a schedule 1 controlled substance "doesn't make any sense." She continues, saying that success stories about the implementation of marijuana for medical purposes, in addition to supportive research, make the case for her cause.
