(KUTV) An Olympic athlete often still needs to support herself while she trains.
Two years ago, Carlijn Schoutens got hired at Dick's Sporting Goods.
"They made an effort to hire Team USA Olympic hopefuls very early on--when they didn't even know if we were going to the games or if we were going to actually it make happen," she explained. "'But they already believed that there should be support for us."
The company is understanding when athletes have to go on trips for weeks at a time and provide flexible work schedules.
According to Schoutens, Dick's Sporting Goods employs over 100 athletes nationwide.
Schoutens enjoys the job because she can share a passion of sports with a customer.
"Whenever someone comes into the store, we already have something in common," she said.
She is grateful for this "perfect" job.
"It's really hard for an athlete to find something like that, and I have it. So I can be happy about that," she said.
