· See your health care provider regularly – keep your prenatal appointments

· You’re not eating for 2. You’re eating for you, plus a little extra. Women who had a healthy pre-pregnancy weight generally need about 300 extra calories a day during pregnancy. That’s not a lot, it’s an extra snack.

· Exercise – get 30 minutes of exercise every day. Talk to your doctor about what activities are appropriate for you. Walking is perfect. Not only does exercise promote healthy weight gain during pregnancy but it also reduces back pain, decreases your risk for delivering via c-section, and helps you lose the extra pounds after your baby is born.

· Foods to avoid during pregnancy: undercooked or raw meat or poultry, unpasteurized milk or cheese, high-mercury fish like shark, swordfish, tilefish, and king mackerel, unwashed produce, cold hot dogs and deli meats.
