(KUTV) Salt Lake City - Chinese New Year is Friday February 16th, 2018, and the Salt Lake County Library is throwing a fun Chinese New Year Celebration at the Viridian Event Center on Saturday. Xiaolian Deng, senior librarian, and Liz Sollis, marketing & communications manager, joined Kari & Brooke on Fresh Living to talk about all the fun events happening at the county library the coming weeks.
Chinese New Year is just around the corner and the County Library can’t wait to celebrate with all of you! We are hosting our first Spring festival at the County Library’s Viridian Event Center, Saturday, February 17, 1-4 pm. There will be a lion dance, folk music, a Qipao show, a Tai Chi Show, a dragon dance, Kongfu fan and poetry, bilingual storytime, origami, calligraphy, chess, lantern making, a language game and opportunities to adopt a dog from Salt Lake County Animal Services – after all, it is the year of the dog and February is Love Your Pet month.
March is Teen Tech Month, an annual month focused on teens and technology. Each year we invite teens to visit the County Library, attend STEM programs, and create something that has purpose to them and their communities. Teens may submit their entries for a chance to win a scholarship to coding boot camp at DevPoint Labs. This unique boot camp opportunity is possible thanks to a partnership with Silicon Slopes and DevPoint Labs. This year, for the first time in Teen Tech Month history, we are kicking it off with a Tech Fest at the County Library’s Viridian Event Center, Saturday, March 3, 1-4 pm. To learn more and to see winning entries from last year, visit slcolibrary.org/teentech.
